Prince William of Wales and Miss Catherine Elizabeth "Kate" Middleton became engaged in October 2010 during a private holiday in Kenya. The Prince William revealed he gave his long-term girlfriend the distinctive blue sapphire ring that belonged to Diana, Princess of Wales, to make sure she "didn't miss out on the excitement".
William said: "As you may have recognized, it's my mother's engagement ring, so of course it's very special to me and Kate's very special to me now as well, and it's only right the two are put together. It was my way of making sure my mother didn't miss out on today, and the excitement and the fact that we're going to spend the rest of our lives together."
Prince Charles proposed to Diana Spencer on February 6, 1981. On February 24th, they appeared together in public for the first time at the official engagement announcement. They got married to each other on July 29, 1981 at St. Paul's Cathedral. Diana was the first English woman to wed a successor to England's throne in over 300 years. The marriage ceremony was shown on TV in 74 countries and watched by 750 million people worldwide. Her engagement ring was an 18 carat sapphire surrounded by diamonds, which was made by Garrard the Crown Jewellers.

I don't like gold. I never buy gold jewelry. (Except for the rose gold watch I bought several months ago and love it to this day.) But I kept looking at this ring. I finally decided to go ahead, take a chance and get it. After all, if I didn't like it, I could return it. I took the ring out of the little bag, slid it onto my finger. I fell instantly in LOVE with the ring. The blue is absolutely GORGEOUS! In one level of light it's a blue teal color. In another level of light it's a blue violet color. I've never seen a blue stone change colors this way. The halo consisting of tiny clear stones remind me of lace. Maybe the blue is what gives the yellow gold an almost rose gold tint to it. The ring is extremely comfortable to wear. In fact, I've worn it every day since I got it. I am so glad I took a chance and purchased the ring. I totally LOVE IT, LOVE IT, LOVE IT!!! Take a chance. You'll love it too.

The Sapphire itself is gorgeous no doubt about that. However, theSwarovski Crystal's in my opinion should be some what larger. one can hardley see them.

I just received this ring yesterday and when I took it out of the package I was floored! It is simply stunning! It has always been a dream of mine to own a ring like Princess Diana's and I am in love with this one. The sapphire is the perfect color blue and the crystals make it look so real. Can't wait to wear it out!
